In this modern-day adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic, Finnegan Bell (Ethan Hawke) is the artistic young boy who is helplessly in love with Estella (Gwyneth Paltrow). Estella is the wealthy granddaughter of the eccentric Ms. Dinsmoor (Anne Bancroft), who has taken an interest in the poor boy. As the children become adults, their different economic statuses keep Estella from becoming involved with Finn. One day, a mysterious benefactor decides to financially back Finn and virtually overnight he becomes the hottest SoHo artist. Now that he is successful, Estella has come back into his life. Finn is determined that nothing should stand in the way of him and his desire to be with Estella.
