After years of marriage, things have gone stale. Port (Paul Bowles) and Kit (Debra Winger) have gone about their daily routine for quite some time. It is just after World War II and in an effort to spice things up in their lives; they take an extended trip to North Africa. There they hope to find the love and attraction they once shared in their earlier years. They are accompanied by their good and dear friend George (Campbell Scott). The beauty and drama of Africa soon spark love but it is not a love between Port and Kit. George and Kit have found love and they soon begin a secret affair. Port senses a change and the three are in the middle of quite a difficult situation. As their ideals change, the question that began this journey, can Port and Kit’s love survive, may be answered in a way none of them expected.
