Stealing Beauty is the story of Lucy Harmon (Liv Tyler) who seeks solitude in Italy after her mother commits suicide. She claims that the primary reason for her trip to Italy is to have her picture painted, but she has another motive for the trip, to revive her romantic relationship with young Italian Nicolo Donati (Robert Zibetti). Lucy and Donati grew close during Harmon’s trip to Italy four years before and they both seem eager to resume their affair. Lucy has also stumbled upon her mother’s secret diary which may help to explain her mother’s suicide as well as quench Lucy’s deep sadness over her mother’s death.
