Bend it like Beckham is a British 'coming of age story' about 18 year old Jesminder Bharma (Parminder Nagra), a Sikh girl living in the suburbs of London. Jesminder is pushed to study law at university and her family wishes to arrange her a marriage. These plans are put on hold for Jesminder when a talent scout Juliette Paxton (Keira Knightley) spots Jesminder's obvious soccer talent. Jess becomes a key member of the Juliette's side, against her parents wishes, and she develops a bond with the team's coach, Joe (Jonathan Rhys-Meyers). Rumours circulate that an American talent scout is looking for female players to fill a college team, Jesminder's talent may snare her the position but the situation ensures a culture clash with her parents. Jesminder must battle her way through her parents expectations to realise her dream!
